#16 What is Man?
By Paul B Thomas
Scripture Reading: Psalm 96;8. Acts 20;35
Purpose: What is man, his role and purpose in this world.
1.Man is a living soul
And God formed man of the dust fo the ground and God breathed life into him and he became a living soul (Gen 2;7).
2, What is the breath of life and who else besides man has it?
And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man: All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died. (Genesis 7;21,22).
3. Man is mortal (subject to death) God is Immortal
4.There is a natural man and the re is the spiritual man
It is sown a natural body it is raise a spiritual body. There is a natural body and there is a spiritual body (1 Cor 15;44)
Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual but that which is natural and afterward that which is spiritual (v46)
5. Does man live again?
Neither can they die anymore; for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God being the children of the resurrection (Luke 20;35,36).
6.Christ died
Christ died for our sins.
7.Man dies
As one dieth so dieth the other; yea they have all one breath, so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast; for allis vanity (Ecc 3;19).
Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the Spirit shall return unto God who gave it (Ecc 12;7)
8.Why is the new birth important
He that believeth on him should not persist but have everlasting life (John 3;16).
I tell you for certain that if you obey my words, you will never die.” (John 8;51).
We are by nature the children of wrath (Ephesians 2;3).
9. When Man dies what becomes of him?
The shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it (Ecc 12;7),
10. Who are those who have eternal life?
He that hath the son hath life, and he that hath not the son of God, hath not life (1 John 5;12).
11. Who alone has immortality?
Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
(1 Timothy 1;17).
12. To who is eternal life promised?
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life (Romans 2;7).
NOTES: God is immortal Exempt forth liability to die (Webster)
Rom6;23 the spirit God gave as a gift returns back to God who gives it. The dust from which man was made a living soul; in the beginning goes back to the earth and the individual no longer exists as a living conscious, thinking being. All who haver received his spirit are “alive in him” and “live in him” (Luke 20;38) having been raised from the dead (John 5;28,29; Acts 24;15; Romans 4;17).
Note on 2: What is the breath of life and who else besides man has it? The animals have the breath of life but the do not have eternal life. note that in this scripture all things that have the “breath of life” die. hence we understand that only those with the “life of God” (The holy ghost) have eternal life.
Notes on 1: Man was made in God’s image and when god breathed into him the breath of life man became a living soul. All souls after Adam inherit natural life or a natural breath. Only in the new birth do we find where god again breathes life into man. proving therefore that man without gods new birth (spirit) is DEAD in trespasses and sins being alienated from the LIFE of God,
Note on 10, Those who by patient continuance in well doing…seek eternal life, this tells us that we who do not have eternal life must seek after it, further, eternal life is a gift form god that is available to all through the new birth (John 3;5). “Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.” (1 Cor 15;51,52).
Life then is only available in Christ and from Christ “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6;23).
Note on 10 and 11; “Immortality:” exempt form liability to die (Webster).
