#01 The Believers Righteousness
by Paul B Thomas

Topic: The Believers righteousness
Scripture Reading: John 3:5
Purpose:
Understanding the true gospel in a world full of fake and false alternative gospels.

1.The prophets told of a coming righteousness without law. Explain?

But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: (Romans 3:21,22)

2.Why do we need the righteousness of God?

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.(Romans 3;21-27)

3.How does the man receive this righteousness?

But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Romans 10:8-10).

4.What is the salvation that our confession leads us toward?

“I have need to be baptized by You, and do You come to me?” But Jesus answering said to him, “Permit it at this time; for in this way it is fitting for us to fulfil all righteousness.” (Matthew 3;13-15)

5.Explain why we need the righteousness of this one man ,Christ Jesus?

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous (Romans 5:17-19

6.Can we obtain our own righteousness?

Jesus is made unto us righteousness (1 Cor 1:30).

7.To whom do the redeemed belong to?

I have redeemed you I have called for you by the name of the ward mine (Romans 8:32).

8.Is righteousness a free gift or does it come by being religious?

For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.(Romans 5:17).

9.What accompanies this righteousness which is from Christ?

Behold I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions and overall the power of the enemy and nothing shall by any means who do you (Luke 10 verse 19).

10.How do we stand in God’s presence without a sense of guilt or condemnation?

My soul shall be joyful in my God for he hath clothed me with the robe of righteousness a bridegroom decketh herself with ornaments and as a bride adorneth herself with jewels (Isaiah 61;10).

11.How do we break free from a sin-consciousness life?

For not the hearers of the law shall justified but the doers of the law (Romans 2;13).

For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; (Romans 8:6-8 NASB).

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, (Romans 6:14,15)

NOTES:

Righteousness is a gift form God. It is not inour abilityto be righteous no matter how many good and great works we do. ‘Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;’ (Titus 3;5).

I cant pray enough to get right with God
I Cant fats enough to be right with God
I cant go to church enough to be right with God
But I can accept his gift of righteousness and be right with God.

Religion is in direct conflict with this approach to God because religion imposes riles on a man that he cannot keep, only God can keep the rules this is why he sent himself as our Saviour. yes to be saved form our own damnation, our in ability top get right with God. God put that right!

You who are trying to be justified by the law have been severed from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. 5But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the hope of righteousness. 6For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value (Gal 5:5 BEREAN).

Good works cannot save your soul. A man’s good works cannot guarantee salvation no matter how good and kind he is. ‘Our righteousness is as filthy rags’ Isaiah 64;6 telsl us ‘But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousness are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.’ Religion always emphasises mans effort Christ emphasied his effort. He died for our sins! Some sectors of Islam declare that a man must die inorder to enter heaven. The bible teaches us Christ died! for our sins in order for a man to enter heaven. Does this we do nothing? NO! we must obey and follow the commands of Jesus and he gives us the grace to do so but its his salvation and his grace that saves us as we obediently follow him as disciples.

What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law, but under grace? Certainly not! 16Do you not know that when you offer yourselves as obedient slaves, you are slaves to the one you obey, whether you are slaves to sin leading to death, or to obedience leading to righteousness? 17But thanks be to God that, though you once were slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were committed. 18You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. (Romans 6;15-18).

The old testament saints were saved by their faith in God.

When we are baptised into Christ we are baptised into his righteousness. Righteousness replaces the sin stained garments of guilt and shame.

This act is a public is a public declaration that my life is no longer my own.Baptism is where a man follows Christ in his death, burial and resurrection and so enters into the life of the Kingdom unavailable to him apart from the new birth and baptism (acts 2:38).

Questions to Consider: 1.Is righteousness part of our battle dress? (Ephesians 6) 2. Is righteousness a spiritual weapon?. 3.Does righteousness enable us to approach God, without shame?
