II Corinthians 12:7-10

There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. 5There are different ministries, but the same Lord. 6There are different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people.

7Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good. 8To one there is given through the Spirit the message of wisdom, to another the message of knowledge by the same Spirit, 9to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit, 10to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues. 11All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, who apportions them to each one as He determines. 1 Cor 12;4-11).

Introduction: Earnestly pursue love and eagerly desire spiritual gifts, especially the gift of prophecy. 2For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men, but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries in the Spirit. 3But he who prophesies speaks to men for their edification, encouragement, and comfort. 4The one who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but the one who prophesies edifies the church. 1 Cor 14:1). or serveth those who believe (1 Cor 14:22).
Not all who  prophesy are prophets but all prophet’s prophesy. prophecy is not always predictive either that is ‘things to come’ purely because all things have their completion in Christ who is a more sure word of prophecy. HIS coming (Incarnation) completed and fulfilled all prophecy. He is the AMEN of all things the beginning and the ending. the final chapter, prophet and prophecy.
Now in the new Testament there is the church and those that prophesy. they themselves prophesy to Edify exhort and comfort. the members, of the church. and is used for CONSTRUCTION, SUPPORT and STRENGTHENING. These words express a ‘Building Up’ of one another (Ephesians 4:4) through the VOICE and MIND of the Lord which is expressed by ‘those who prophesy’ Who like Christ convey his divine will to the church I will build my church he says. that’s what those who prophesy do today

1. Prophecy is for EDIFICATION
2. Prophecy is for EXHORTATION
3. Prophecy is for COMFORT

Conclusion: The New Testament “thorn” is synonymous with the Old Testament concept of affliction as found in Psalm 119: 65-72,75, 107. There is a “treasury of thorns” found in 12:10:

Edification to build your Faith
Exhortation to keep you on track
Comfort to keep you together in times of trial, difficulty or Crisis

Difference between those who prophesy and the Leader Prophet. Ep 3;11
The set prophet has regular inspiration and revelation form the Lord
The set prophet can teach and expound on the given revelation he has from the Lord
The set prophet is habitual in his presentation and utterance of the prophetic message. whereas those who prophesy give an occasional message, inspiration, also under the anointing and inspiration of the Holy Ghost.
